Pine Bay Pictures, Morning Moon and Traction have added Billie Lourd, Matt Barr and Elizabeth Tulloch to Josh Plasse’s comedy-drama The Pirate King starring Rob Riggle and Jordana Brewster.
Military vet Riggle stars as Todd, a Marine veteran struggling with PTSD and addiction who finds unexpected redemption when he joins a group of pirate reenactors, giving him a chance to fight for custody of his daughter and rebuild the life he thought was lost forever.
Star Wars and American Horror Story star Lourd is also producing the movie. She’s starring in this summer’s Paramount animated pic Smurfs as Worry Smurf. Cameras are rolling in Virginia Beach.
Additional newly added cast names include Nichole Sakura (Superstore), Leander Suleiman (Saturday Night), Annabeth Gish (Before I Wake), Brett Cullen (Joker), Chris Witaske (The Bear). Also Adele Abinante is making her feature film debut as Todd’s daughter, Emmylou. Country music artist and military veteran Craig Morgan has also been added.
The script was penned by Plasse based on a story by Brev Moss inspired by the exploits and adventures of real-life pirate Captain Todd Willis.
Lourd’s credits include Scream Queens, American Horror Stories, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl. Her Morning Moon label recently produced Wildflower, starring Kiernan Shipka and Jean Smart, released on Hulu, as well as the documentary Watershed about Paralympic swimmer Mallory Weggemann, released on Peacock. The company currently has two projects in post-production: Tomahawk Springs, directed by Ramzi Bashour, and Late Fame starring Willem Dafoe and Greta Lee. The company’s music production arm, Morning Moon Music, is operated by the award-winning songwriting trio Dan Lotti, Mike Sivilli, and Howard Dlugasch. Lourd is repped by CAA.
