Mace Windu actor Samuel L. Jackson is deep in talks to star in the next big Taylor Sheridan drama, a Paramount+ spinoff of Tulsa King.
The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news last year that a spinoff of the Sylvester Stallone hit was in the works, with former series writer Terence Winter previously noodling an idea set in New Orleans.
Sources say the current plan is for Jackson to be introduced as a guest star character in the upcoming third season of Tulsa King — which is currently in production in Oklahoma and Atlanta — and then launch his own series. In addition, Deadline reports that Dave Erickson (Mayor of Kingstown) will be writing the spinoff after previously taking over showrunner duties on Tulsa King for the new season.
The casting would be quite a coup for executive producer Sheridan and for Paramount+. In 2023, the Guinness Book of World Recordsdeclared Jackson the actor with the highest-grossing collective box office of all time, with his films (including The Avengers franchise and hits like Pulp Fiction — for which he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor — and Jurassic Park) bringing more than a cumulative $7 billion. The actor has appeared in more than 150 films.
Marveled one agency partner at the news: “The level of talent Sheridan is able to secure for TV is unprecedented.”
The original Tulsa King stars Stallone as a New York mobster who is exiled to Oklahoma and builds up his own new crime empire. The show has been a major hit for the streamer. It’s second-season return in September was Paramount+’s most-watched global premiere in the streamer’s history, and the show ranked as a Nielsen Top 10 streaming title throughout the rest of its sophomore season run.
Jackson has other business at Paramount as well, as news broke in April that he’s to star in Paramount Pictures’ Man of War from director Tim Story.
